Parking for People is a project that aims to install a Parklet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parklet) on Mackay Street between De Maissonneuve and Sherbrooke. While the area is an important space central to the Concordia community, it unfortunately remains dedicated to automobile traffic and parking. Implantation of a parklet (placottoir in French) on Mackay would improve quality of life, promote a car-free culture, reduce urban heat island effects and reduce pollution.

By March 1, 2014, the project hopes to have a by-law approved by the borough of Ville-Marie that would transfer the management of a parking space on Mackay Street to the Concordia community. Once the parking spot’s zoning is in place, diverse sustainable projects involving urban agriculture, public art and urban furniture (e.g. benches) would be implemented.
