The pandemic has exacerbated the effects of food insecurity in the Concordia and greater Montreal communities. Because of this, Le Frigo Vert has been handing out pay what you can (PWYC) food baskets to those who need them. The continents of the baskets are all vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free depending on the recipient’s dietary restrictions. People’s food allergies are also taken into consideration when preparing the baskets. Through Le Frigo Vert’s connections with local farms, food producers, and distribution companies, they are able to provide people with local, organic and healthy groceries. As the pandemic rages on, food distribution and insecurity will likely become an even greater problem than it currently is.
