Diasporic Plant Wisdom is an intergenerational and intra-diasporic inititative that aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and solidarity building among Indigenous and diasporic communities in Tio’Tia:ke / Montreal by sharing herbal medicine and food traditions. This is necessary because the effects of colonization and displacement have caused many communities to lose access to their ancestral knowledge and traditions.

Diasporic Plant Wisdom provides a welcoming and accesible a space for communities to learn from each other about herbal and food medicine, and to pass down and share their knowledge. The core of the project includes workshops that cover the basics of herbalism, as well as knowledge exchange circles with elders and community members from different diasporic communities, and Indigenous knowledge of plants and practices in Tio’Tia:ke/Montreal. Our forcasted results and impacts is to build a space where 50+ Concordia students from different diasporas can (re)connect with their food and herbal traditions and build community in across different ethnic and cultural groups in Montreal. We will do this through our programming. Diasporic Plant Wisdom will host 6 workshops and a foraging walk throughout the spring and summer. Each workshop will cover a specific recipe or food tradition from a culture or area.
