‘-and it’s just because i love you’ is a month-long artist residency in partnership with Eastern Bloc and Cyber Love Hotel. The residency allows 6 QTBIPOC emerging artists and students to challenge themselves to create projects centered around love and intimacy; whether collective, individual, and/or ancestral.
The residency will take place during the month of November, with the final exhibition happening during the weekend of the 7th to 11th of December. Once a week during the residency, the artists will come together for a themed team-building workshop, which range from a theatrical body workshop, learning 3D scanning methodologies, art therapy dinner, etc.
This artist residency directly speaks to ongoing challenges faced by QTBIPOC artists in Montreal art spaces. This challenge being the lack of representation and intentional outreach from art institutions in the city. ‘-and it’s just because i love you’ acts as a space by and for QTBIPOC, where artists can commune together and create work that speaks to the pure resilience, love, and joy we all have learned how to acquire in the face of prejudice, oppression and systemic isolation
