Our Concordia Black History Month: Montreal Black Artists-in- Community Residency Exhibition & Programming is a three-tiered project which aims to create a platform for representing Black identity in Montreal and foster an emerging and crucial relationship between Black communities and our university.

The first stage of the project, the Montreal Black Artists-in-Community Residency (Nov 2017-Janurary 2018), is a themed program, which centers on Black identity in Montreal. During the residency, artists will work on creating art that carry community stories, histories and perspectives. The second stage of the project is the exhibition itself (February 2018), hosted at the Galerie Mile-End (5345 Ave du Parc), during which we will host talks, workshops and community events which aim to connect and forge relationships between Concordia and Montreal’s Black communities, representing and creating a platform for Concordia’s own Black students. The third stage is an exhibition tour (March 2018-Janurary 2019) of the artists’ final works, in which we will document and print the original art into large-scale exhibition posters which will tour Concordia University and culturally significant Montreal Black community spaces.
