The STAIN (Sustainable Tinctorial Art in Nature) Lab is a multi-platform educational tool for artists aiming to foster a culture of sustainability within Concordia and eventually to the greater Montreal artistic community. In the form of hands-on workshops and presentations given by trained Fine Arts students, the STAIN lab will challenge, experiment, discuss and disseminate methodologies on how to grow, collect, harvest, and transform plants and natural materials into usable art supplies. The lab will take the form of an adaptable cart on wheels, a treasure chest harboring an ever-growing archive of sustainable dyes, pigments, plant samples, and experiments. Because of our affiliation with the Textile and Materiality Cluster of Concordia Milieux Institute for the Arts and Technology, the cluster confirmed that the cart can reside in their E.V. building studio. The STAIN lab will also have an online presence to promote and spread inspiration, information, and ecological resilience.
